 Braco Main Street Perthshire, Scotland

THE VILLAGE OF BRACO,
PERTHSHIRE
Forty miles from Glasgow, fifty two miles
from Edinburgh, and only twelve miles from Stirling, Braco nestles
in the rolling hills of Scotland's scenic south west
Perthshire.
A quiet country village of approx 580
inhabitants (based on 2004 figures) it was here nearly 2000 years
ago that the Romans built a number of forts, including Ardoch at
Braco, the ruins of which lie within a hilly wooded area less than a
mile from Braco Main Street.
These forts were connected
by a line of watchtowers and fortlets across the southern edge of
Perthshire and were constructed some forty years before Hadrian's
Wall.
Ardoch was one of the largest Roman
fortifications ever built in Britain. Today, hidden by woodland, the
grass covered hillside ramparts and ditches are all that remain of
this once fine example of Roman fort building.
