Postby michael j hay » Mon May 26, 2008 12:28 am

on my mum's side loads of gordons my great...grandfather married margret gordon of glengarrick and his father married margret gordon of park.
as to the regiment i served with the gordons till 1993 got out in Berlin, my great uncle and his son served as well as his father my great grandfather and his father and so on back to the formation of the regiment, we had hays there when the first regiment was formed and a few at waterloo.

the biggest family loss was at the 3rd battle of ypres where on the hay side out of 7 brothers we lost 4 all gordons, my great uncles claim to fame was that his father in law was George Imlach McIntosh of the gordons who won the victoria cross at ypres.

always thought i was a gordon as i was brought up a Marr ,a sept of the gordons, then i found out i was adopted and was actually a hay, but still proud of my gordon history, and will be spending time at the gordon tent at the aboyne games this year, cant wait the gordons always throw a good party..

George Macintosh V.C. was my school janitor at Buckie High School. He also served in the R.A.F. during W.W. 2.

M.J.Hay. Nice enough guy, very quiet, very strict and could be a bit grumpy when some of the kids got up his nose. Never heard him boast about his experiences, but we all knew the story about his V.C.
